At Historic Maps of New England all of our picture frames are built here in New England using solid American hardwoods from the region. We believe that the intrinsic beauty of the frame comes from the wood itself.  Each frame is defined by its species of wood, color, grain and age, along with other attributes that make every frame unique.

While Historic Maps does provide stained finishes such as satin black in our maple frames, all of our frames come with the traditional natural finish of Oil and Wax. After the moulding has been hand sanded a tung oil based finish is applied. This finish penetrates into the wood giving an inner glow not found with other polyurethane type finishes.  After drying a coating of liquid wax is applied to preserve the oil and add additional luster.

We offer the following species of wood & finishes
